Job Description
Our client is a leading national law firm with a dedicated charities and purpose-driven institutions practice. An opportunity has opened for a Senior Associate to work alongside the partner who leads the national team, advising not-for-profits on the issues that decide whether they can get on with their work.
Why you'll love it here
• $170,000 to $210,000 depending on experience
• A genuinely specialised charities practice, not not-for-profit work bolted onto a commercial team
• Clients whose work you can believe in, advised at a technical level the sector rarely gets
• Direct work with the partner leading the national practice
• Your own client relationships, and junior lawyers to bring on
• Flexible working, plus health insurance discounts and an employee assistance program
• Permanent, full time, Sydney CBD
About the role
The work is a mix of tax, governance and corporate advice for charities and not-for-profit institutions.
• Drafting complex letters of advice and submissions to the ATO and the ACNC
• Arranging tax endorsements and concessions for charities
• Providing corporate and governance advice
• Advising on fundraising issues
• Dealing with internal disputes within not-for-profit organisations
• Drafting constitutions and acting on mergers
What you'll bring
• A minimum of 5 years' post admission experience in not-for-profit, charity, corporate, commercial or tax law
• Current Australian practising certificate
• The ability to explain complex legal matters clearly to boards and volunteers
• A demonstrated commitment to the not-for-profit sector
• Client management experience and a willingness to mentor junior lawyers
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• A credit average or higher from a respected university
