Job Description

Are you a financial controller with a strong background in the legal industry? A well-established and growing law firm in Sydney is seeking a Financial Controller to take full ownership of the firm's financial operations and act as a strategic advisor to senior leadership.

This is a rare opportunity to step into a position of trust and influence, working side-by-side with the firm's Principal in a full-time, in-office role.

Key responsibilities:

Manage the firm’s entire financial function, including:
  • Bookkeeping, billing, payroll, debt recovery, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Trust accounting and compliance with trust audit requirements
  • Financial reporting and strategic analysis
  • Oversight of all accounts, banking, and credit card reconciliations 
  • Deliver accurate, insightful financial and business performance reports to the Principal 
  • Streamline financial systems and processes to support firm growth
  • Provide strategic input and financial modelling to guide decision-making  
  • Maintain a high level of financial integrity and confidentiality

About you:
  • A confident, highly trustworthy finance professional with strong attention to detail
  • Experience working within a law firm or professional services environment is essential
  • Deep understanding of legal trust accounting and Law Society compliance
  • Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills
  • Strong communication skills – able to present complex financial information clearly
  • Proven ability to take ownership and drive continuous improvement
  • You enjoy working onsite, shoulder-to-shoulder with leadership, and being a key part of a close-knit team
