Job Description

About Our Client

Our client is a well-established Melbourne property law specialist with over 50 years of continuous operation. Recognised as an inaugural Tier 1 Best Law Firm in Real Property Law and Leasing Law in Melbourne, the firm's property practice has attracted consistent peer recognition across Best Lawyers in Australia, with two Principals holding LIV Accredited Specialist status in Property Law and Commercial Law respectively.

The firm acts for some of Victoria's most active property developers on significant landmark transactions — multi-hundred-lot off-the-plan developments, joint ventures, complex title work, and compulsory acquisitions on major government infrastructure projects including the Suburban Rail Loop, Melbourne Metro Rail (44 buildings across 94 titles), North East Link, and West Gate Tunnel. The property team is led by practitioners who are deeply embedded in the Melbourne property law community, including a current Co-Chair of the LIV Property Law and Commercial Tenancy Specialist Committee.

About the Position

This is a transactional property law role for an experienced practitioner who can carry complex matters with genuine independence. The work is drafting-heavy and sophisticated — master contracts for large off-the-plan developments, joint venture structures, mezzanine and senior debt documentation, easements, restrictive covenants, Section 173 agreements, and multi-owner consolidations. The firm acts across residential, commercial, and mixed-use development, and the successful candidate will work directly alongside Accredited Specialist Principals on landmark Victorian projects.

This is not a volume conveyancing role. The expectation is a lawyer who has done real transactional drafting — someone who can examine a complex title, identify the issues, and draft the solution without close supervision. In return, the role offers genuine responsibility, direct access to the most recognised property practitioners in the Melbourne market, and a breadth of work — development, planning, leasing, owners corporations, and compulsory acquisition — that few roles at this seniority level provide.

Key Requirements
  • 3+ years PAE in property law with a strong transactional and drafting focus
  • Demonstrated experience preparing or reviewing master contracts, JV documentation, or complex finance documents
  • Sound knowledge of Victorian conveyancing law and the Transfer of Land Act
  • Ability to manage complex property matters with appropriate supervision
  • Proficiency with PEXA, LEAP, and standard property transaction platforms preferred
  • Victorian admission
  • Strong drafting and communication skills; commercially minded approach

On Offer
  • Immediate responsibility on landmark Melbourne property transactions
  • Direct mentorship from two LIV Accredited Specialist Principals
  • Competitive remuneration commensurate with experience
  • Stable, nationally recognised platform — Tier 1 Best Law Firm, 50+ years of continuous operation
  • Genuine breadth across development, leasing, planning, owners corporations, and compulsory acquisition
  • Collegial culture within a Melbourne practice of approximately 50 legal professionals
