About the Firm:
Our client is a multi-disciplinary Sydney law firm with a dedicated Planning, Environment and Government (PEG) division. The PEG team is led by two Accredited Specialists in Planning and Environment Law, including a dual-qualified lawyer and urban planner whose combined experience spans more than 30 years.
The team acts across both the private and public sectors — advising developers, private landowners, local councils, infrastructure authorities and government entities. It is a practice that attracts genuinely complex, high-profile work and is well-positioned within the current wave of NSW planning reform.
Salaey and Features of this position: - $155,000–$210,000 + superannuation, depending on experience and level
- Direct mentorship from two Accredited Specialists including a dual-qualified lawyer/urban planner
- Active pipeline of state significant development matters in a period of major NSW planning reform

About the Position
Our client is looking for a Planning and Environment lawyer at Associate or Senior Associate level (4–7 PQE) to join the PEG team in Sydney CBD. This is a reactivated search following a strategic review at Partners and CEO level in early 2026 — confirming a genuine and committed mandate. The successful candidate will work across the full development lifecycle, bringing a whole-project mindset to both advisory and contentious matters.
Work Types - Development applications (DAs) and planning proposals
- Rezonings and state significant development (including 2025 NSW EPA Act amendments)
- Land and Environment Court litigation (Class 1 and Class 4)
- Compulsory acquisition and infrastructure agreements
- Heritage and biodiversity matters
- Environmental compliance and contaminated land
- Local government law
Key Requirements - 4–7 PQE in Planning and Environment law (private practice)
- NSW admission essential
- LEC litigation experience (Class 1 and/or Class 4)
- Sound working knowledge of the EP&A Act and NSW planning framework
- Practical, commercially-minded approach to complex matters
- Accredited Specialist status or active progress toward it is well regarded
