Job Description

About the Firm:

Our client is a multi-disciplinary Sydney law firm with a dedicated Planning, Environment and Government (PEG) division. The PEG team is led by two Accredited Specialists in Planning and Environment Law, including a dual-qualified lawyer and urban planner whose combined experience spans more than 30 years.

The team acts across both the private and public sectors — advising developers, private landowners, local councils, infrastructure authorities and government entities. It is a practice that attracts genuinely complex, high-profile work and is well-positioned within the current wave of NSW planning reform.

  • $155,000–$210,000 + superannuation, depending on experience and level
  • Direct mentorship from two Accredited Specialists including a dual-qualified lawyer/urban planner
  • Active pipeline of state significant development matters in a period of major NSW planning reform
  • Clear pathway to senior roles within a specialist PEG team
  • Flexible working arrangements available
  • Sydney CBD location
About the Position

Our client is looking for a Planning and Environment lawyer at Associate or Senior Associate level (4–7 PQE) to join the PEG team in Sydney CBD. This is a reactivated search following a strategic review at Partners and CEO level in early 2026 — confirming a genuine and committed mandate. The successful candidate will work across the full development lifecycle, bringing a whole-project mindset to both advisory and contentious matters.

Work Types
  • Development applications (DAs) and planning proposals
  • Rezonings and state significant development (including 2025 NSW EPA Act amendments)
  • Land and Environment Court litigation (Class 1 and Class 4)
  • Compulsory acquisition and infrastructure agreements
  • Heritage and biodiversity matters
  • Environmental compliance and contaminated land
  • Local government law
Key Requirements
  • 4–7 PQE in Planning and Environment law (private practice)
  • NSW admission essential
  • LEC litigation experience (Class 1 and/or Class 4)
  • Sound working knowledge of the EP&A Act and NSW planning framework
  • Practical, commercially-minded approach to complex matters
  • Accredited Specialist status or active progress toward it is well regarded
