Family Lawyer role in Sydney CBD with complex property, trust, super and estates matters. Mentoring + Bonuses available.
Why this role? - Complex property matters involving corporate trust structures, superannuation, and estates well in excess of $10 million - the kind of work you rarely see outside a national firm, in a boutique setting without the bureaucracy
- Direct carriage of your own files from day one, with genuine access to and mentorship from a highly experienced senior partner who runs an open-door practice
- Individual performance bonus, LEAP software, and a culture that actively manages workload to prevent burnout - the 6-hour daily billable target is not policed day to day
About Our Client Our client is a boutique family law practice in the Sydney CBD operating entirely on referral. There is no advertising and no industry awards - just a reputation built over decades on delivering quality outcomes for clients with complex financial circumstances. Many of the matters handled involve property portfolios in the hundreds of millions.
The team is deliberately small: a senior partner (Doyles Guided), two solicitors at different experience levels, a paralegal, and an experienced legal secretary. There is no red tape. Everyone is rewarded on individual merit, and the partner is genuinely invested in the development and wellbeing of each team member.
The Position You will carry your own files from the outset, with responsibility commensurate with your experience. The caseload spans complex financial property matters through to straightforward consent orders and contested parenting matters. Day-to-day you will be:
- Drafting Applications for Consent Orders, initiating documents, affidavits, and covering letters
- Preparing briefs to counsel (including Senior Counsel for substantive hearings) and mediation position papers
- Drafting complex property advices, including matters involving corporate trust structures and superannuation
- Appearing at directions and procedural hearings; briefing counsel for substantive interim and final hearings
- Liaising with forensic accountants and specialist tax lawyers on complex financial issues
- Working in LEAP for document management and time recording
Admin support is in place: collating and indexing financial disclosure, generating standard document parts, and file set-up are handled by the paralegal and secretary so you can focus on legal work.
What You Will Need - 4-8 years PAE in family law (both levels genuinely considered)
- Solid drafting skills across property and parenting matters
- Experience with or genuine interest in complex financial structures: corporate trusts, superannuation, high-value property
- Ability to independently manage files and client relationships
- Current NSW practising certificate in good standing
What Is On Offer - Competitive salary, negotiable on experience
- Individual performance-based bonus structure
- Genuine mentorship from a senior partner who is accessible and invested in your development
- 6-hour daily billable target, managed with discretion - quiet periods are acknowledged and accepted
- Strong paralegal and secretarial support
- Complex, high-quality work in a small team without large-firm politics or approval chains
