The Opportunity:

Hunter New England LHD is seeking experienced GP VMOs to provide locum coverage in its rural emergency departments. You’ll manage a wide range of ED presentations and may be the senior decision-maker on shift, depending on the hospital.
 
Shifts may include day and night coverage, with onsite support from experienced nurses and clear escalation pathways in place.
 
Clinical Environment:

• Work across busy rural EDs, managing presentations from minor injuries to major trauma – ideal for maintaining broad generalist skills in a high-impact setting
• Enjoy autonomy in clinical decision-making, with consultant backup available remotely or onsite – perfect for confident GPs seeking independence with support when needed
• Collaborate with skilled nursing teams, retrieval services, and local GPs – ensuring a cohesive and well-supported working environment
• Perform procedural work, including airway management, fracture care, and urgent treatment – great for GPs looking to keep their hands-on skills sharp
• Provide care in a community-focused hospital where your input directly impacts local patients and outcomes

Eligibility Criteria:

• AHPRA General or Specialist Registration
• Fellowship with RACGP or ACRRM
• Comfortable managing ED presentations independently
• NSW Working with Children Check and Police Check
