The Opportunity:

Northern NSW LHD is seeking a Consultant, Staff Specialist or VMO Orthopaedic Surgeon to provide locum cover across its public hospital network.

You’ll deliver a combination of trauma and elective surgical care, participate in consultant rosters, and supervise registrars. Roles may include outpatient clinics, operating lists, and 24-hour on-call shifts depending on the location and schedule.

Clinical Environment:

• Manage a high-volume trauma and fracture caseload, ensuring strong procedural variety and exposure to complex presentations
• Operate in modern, well-equipped theatres with dedicated nursing and anaesthetic support – allowing you to focus on patient care
• Collaborate with ED, inpatient and allied health teams to deliver holistic orthopaedic management
• Support and mentor registrars and junior doctors, contributing to a strong teaching culture while reducing workload strain
• Make a meaningful contribution to regional hospitals, where your expertise directly supports underserved communities

Eligibility Criteria:

• AHPRA Specialist Registration
• Fellowship with RACS (Orthopaedic Surgery) or equivalent
• NSW Working with Children Check and Police Check
• Willingness to complete onboarding and credentialing

What’s Provided:

• $3,000/shift, based on shift type and experience

• Ad hoc and block shifts available throughout 2025

Location – Northern NSW:
Work within the scenic Northern NSW region, with placements across towns such as Lismore, Ballina, Grafton, and Tweed Heads.
